... Uninstall/Reinstall
CD Drive in Windows XP ...

Right
Click on the "Start" button and choose "Explore"

In
the folder list on the left, right click on "My Computer"
and choose "Properties"

In
the "Properties" panel, click on the "Hardware"
tab

On
the "Hardware" tab, click on the "Device Manager"
button
-
In
"Device Manager", click the "+" sign next
to "DVD/CD/CD-RW drives". This may not say all of
the drive options (DVD, CD, CD-RW) listed here
-
Right
click on the drive that you wish to uninstall and choose "Uninstall".
After
uninstalling the drive, reboot your computer. The drive should re-install
on its own. If not, follow these steps:
- Right
Click on the "Start" button and choose "Explore"
- In the
folder list on the left, right click on "My Computer"
and choose "Properties"
- In the
"Properties" panel, click on the "Hardware"
tab
- On the
"Hardware" tab, click on the "Device Manager"
button
- Click
on the "Action" menu and choose "Scan for hardware
changes"
- If the
drive still does not install, you may need to take your computer
to a qualified repair center
for attention.
